Media Release May 25, 2026 - Impaired

One person has been charged after an off-duty officer reported a driving complaint.

On May 24, 2026, just before 9:00 p.m., an off-duty officer observed a vehicle drive over a curb while attempting to park at a business on Russell Street West. The officer had recent interactions with the driver, who had previously shown signs of alcohol consumption.

Responding officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The driver was investigated and determined to have consumed alcohol. The driver failed an Approved Screening Device test and was placed under arrest for impaired operation. He was transported to the Kawartha Lakes Police Service, where he provided breath samples that exceeded the legal limit.

A 57-year-old male was charged with Operation While Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus). He was later released with a future court date.

The accused driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
