Media Release March 16, 2026 - Impaired

A 21-year-old male from Omemee has been charged with Impaired Operation following a traffic investigation on March 14, 2026.

At approximately 2:45 a.m., police were called to a local bar after staff observed a male—who had been in the establishment earlier in the evening and had left on foot—return driving a vehicle. Concerned for his safety, staff attempted to prevent him from driving further but were unsuccessful.

Officers arrived and, during their investigation, observed that the driver displayed signs of impairment by alcohol. A roadside screening device test was administered, which the driver failed. As a result, the male was placed under arrest and transported to the Kawartha Lakes Police Service. He provided breath samples to a qualified breath technician, which were found to be twice the legal limit.

The accused was charged with:

Operation While Impaired — blood alcohol concentration 80 plus

The vehicle he was operating was impounded, and his driver’s licence was suspended.

He was released from custody with a future court date.
