At approximately 9:00 p.m., an officer on routine patrol observed a vehicle attempting to back out of a driveway on William Street North. The vehicle drove off the driveway, crossed the sidewalk, and became stuck several times in nearby snowbanks.

A traffic stop was conducted, during which the driver failed an approved screening device test. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Kawartha Lakes Police Service.

The accused provided breath samples to a qualified breath technician, which were found to be almost three times the legal limit.

He was charged with:

·       Operation While Impaired — blood alcohol concentration 80 plus

·       Drive Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Alcohol

·       Drive Vehicle or Boat with Cannabis Readily Available

The vehicle the accused was operating was impounded, and his driver’s licence was suspended.

He was later released from custody with a future court date.

Trespass By Night

Over the last several weeks, the Kawartha Lakes Police have received numerous complaints about a white Ford SUV involved in thefts from vehicles in several neighborhoods in Lindsay and Bobcaygeon.

Two male suspects were working together, checking driveways for unlocked vehicles, which they would enter to steal items.

At around 10:00 p.m. on January 25th, police received a call regarding a suspicious vehicle in the area of McLaughlin Road and Denfield Road. Reports indicated that a white Ford SUV was driving up and down streets in the area, following a male who was checking unlocked vehicles in driveways. The pair were confronted and fled the area but were quickly located by responding officers and placed under arrest.

A 61‑year‑old male and a 37‑year‑old male, both from Lindsay, were charged with Trespass by Night. Both were held in custody to await a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay.

The vehicle used in the offence has been impounded.
