Multiple Impaired Driving Arrests

During a busy weekend two drivers were arrested and charged with several offences including impaired driving.

The first incident occurred on December 5th at around 8:45pm.  Police received a report of a male locked in his vehicle at a Lindsay Street South business, who appeared to be in medical distress behind the wheel.

Police arrived and were able to gain entry into the vehicle to check on the well-being of the driver and a passenger found asleep in the rear seat.  Officers observed evidence of drug use in the vehicle and determined that the male driver was impaired.  He was arrested and returned to the Kawartha Lakes Police Service.

A 36-year-old male from Lindsay was charged with:

·        Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs

·        Failure or refusal to comply with demand

·        Possession of a schedule 1 substance - cocaine

·        Possession of a schedule 1 substance - opioid (other than heroin)

The vehicle was impounded and the accused was released with a future court date.

The second incident occurred on December 6th just before 3:00am when police received a cellphone crash notification in the area of Cheese Factory road and Post Road.  Communicators were able to speak to a male who indicated that his vehicle went into the ditch after slipping on ice.  Officers attended the area and located tire marks which showed that the vehicle had driven out of the ditch and left the scene.

Moments later a resident nearby called 911 to report a break and enter in progress.  The caller stated that a male had just broken into their residence but was removed and left on foot. Police arrived and located footprints leading from the residence to a neighboring property.  Upon approach a male came out from a recessed doorway and charged at officers who used a conducted energy weapon to stop the male and safely take him into custody.

A pickup truck associated to the accused was found crashed near the break and enter scene.

A 21-year-old male from Thorton was charged with:

·        Break and Enter

·        Trespassing at Night

The vehicle operated by the accused was impounded and he was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
