Impaired Driving

An 18-year-old male has been charged with Impaired Operation following a traffic investigation on February 9, 2026.

At approximately 10:40 p.m., an officer on routine patrol observed a compact sedan being driven erratically on Kent Street West. The driver committed several traffic violations before the officer conducted a traffic stop in the parking lot of a local business.

The driver was investigated, and it was determined that his driver’s licence was suspended. The vehicle he was operating was not insured and had only one licence plate attached, which was not authorized for that vehicle. The investigating officer also noted signs of alcohol consumption, and the driver was placed under arrest.

The accused was transported to the Kawartha Lakes Police Service, where he provided breath samples. The results indicated a blood alcohol concentration that was twice the legal limit.

The accused has been charged with:

• Operation While Impaired — alcohol and drugs

• Operation While Impaired — blood alcohol concentration 80 plus

He was also charged with 10 additional Provincial Offences, including driving while under suspension and driving without insurance.

The vehicle operated by the accused was impounded, and his driver’s licence was further suspended.

He was released from custody with a future court date.
