Part-Time Communicator
The City of Kawartha Lakes Police Service operates a twenty-four-hour Communications Centre at its location on 6 Victoria Avenue North, Lindsay. The Communication Centre’s primary goal is to provide an efficient service for receiving public emergency calls to be dispatched to police officers and/or any other emergency service agencies with which the Service provides contracted communications needs. Further, Communicators are responsible for tracking of calls and officer-initiated activity. This will include Fire Dispatch services as well as the 9-1-1 Public Service Answering Point (P.S.A.P.) services, which includes down streaming to several emergency agencies throughout the City of Kawartha Lakes. As well, the Centre handles general inquiries and administration calls.
MINIMUM Requirements: All Applicants must
Be a minimum of 18 years-of-age
Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
Have successfully completed Secondary School or equivalent
Skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills and be proficient in English
Computer literacy with keyboarding skills of at least 40wpm @90% accuracy
Abilities
Able to work rotating shifts (i.e. dayshift and night shift including holidays and weekends)
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
Ability to remain calm under pressure
Ability to exercise good judgment and make good decisions
Ability to observe, retain and prepare clear, concise and accurate reports and operate general office equipment
Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels of comprehension and to handle the public with courtesy and authority
Well-developed communication skills and be able to perform well in highly stressful situations
All other qualifications the position justifies
Education
Post secondary education and/or diploma in 911 Emergency Telecommunications or related field is considered an asset.
