Theft charges

On January 28, 2023 at 9:32am Kawartha Lakes Police were called to the area of Russell Street West after a female was heard calling for help. A staff member, from a business in the area assisted the female. Police attended and spoke to the female who reported being involved in an altercation with a male known to her, which resulted in a theft. As a result of an investigation 39-year-old Raymond Steele of Lindsay has been charged with theft under $5000 and fail to comply with probation order X2. The accused will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice, located at 440 Kent Street West in Lindsay on March 9, 2023.

Public mischief charges

On January 28, 2023 at 6:28pm, police responded to a Lindsay Street South residence for the second time on this date, for a 911 call. Each time the caller would not speak and hung up.

On multiple occasions, police have attended the Lindsay Street South address to check on the well-being of the caller for unfounded suspicious persons calls. Further investigation confirmed the male had made over 20 emergency calls since January 13, 2023. A warning was given on two occasions, however, he continued to call without any reasonable explanation.

48-year-old David Hulland of Lindsay has been charged with public mischief and harassing communications. The accused will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located at 440 Kent Street West in Lindsay on March 9, 2023.

Kawartha Lakes Police would like to remind the Kawartha Lakes Community that continued abuse of 911 calls is a criminal offence and can cause a serious delay for those in need of urgent assistance.

A 911 emergency is when someone needs help right away because of injury of an immediate danger. If you have called 911 accidentally, it is important to stay on the line to speak to a communicator to explain the error. Every 911 call is taken seriously, explaining the mistake can eliminate the need for the emergency communicator to call back. It is also important to ensure cell phones are locked to avoid accidentally calling 911.

Two impaired drives arrested early Sunday morning

Kawartha Lakes Police arrested two impaired drivers early Sunday morning, from two separate investigations.

On Sunday January 29, 2023 at 1:20am while on patrol a Kawartha Lakes Police constable stopped a vehicle on Division Street in Lindsay, in order to investigate a traffic infraction. While speaking with the driver the officer noticed signs of impairment. The driver provided a breath sample into an approved screening device and failed. The driver was placed under arrest for impaired driving. 38-year-old James Massey of Fenelon Twp has been charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, operations while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) and one Highway Traffic Act infraction. The accused will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice, located at 400 Kent Street West in Lindsay on March 9, 2023.

Approximately three hours later, at 4:39am, while responding to a call for service, the responding officer observed a vehicle travelling without headlights activated and visibility obstructed by snow. The officer conducted a traffic stop on Dyana Drive in Lindsay. Speaking with the driver the officer noticed signs of impairment and placed him under arrest. As a result of an investigation, 30-year-old Robert Carter of Bobcaygeon has been charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), failure to comply with undertaking X2, theft of credit card, possession of credit card, six Highway Traffic Act infractions and one Liquor Licence Control Act infraction. The accused will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice, located at 400 Kent Street West in Lindsay on March 9, 2023.
