Impaired Driving Arrest

On Sunday August 4th, 2024 at approximately 7:50am Kawartha Lakes Police Service received a call regarding a possible impaired driver in Lindsay.   Police located the vehicle a short time later.  Further investigation revealed that the 38-year-old female from Apsley was impaired.  The driver was arrested and it was determined that she was four times over the legal limit, she was charged with the following offences:

  • Operation while Impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • In addition to the charges the driver received a 90 -day driver’s licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for 7-days.

The accused will all appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located at 440 Kent Street West in Lindsay.

Weapons Charges

On Monday August 5th, 2024 at approximately 8pm Kawartha Lakes Police Service received a call regarding a weapons incident in the area of Victoria avenue north, Lindsay.

Information received was that a male party had approached a group of individuals in the area and threatened them with bear spray.  One of the parties involved was an off -duty police officer who was able to observe the male enter a residence in the area.  The male party was located a short time later in the area and subsequently arrested.  Kawartha Lakes Police Service Criminal Investigative Branch assisted with obtaining a search warrant for the residence where the bear spray was located.

Michael Tomkinson a 28-year -old male from Lindsay was charged with the following:

  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Obstruct Peace Officer
  • Assault with a weapon X 4
  • Fail to comply with release order x 3

The accused had been previously been released on Bail on three prior occasions for weapons and violence related offences.  He was also wanted by Durham Regional Police and York Regional Police.  He has been held for a Bail Hearing at 440 Kent Street west in Lindsay.
