Impaired Driving Arrests

Four drivers arrested and charged with Impaired Driving in last three days.

On Saturday June 22nd ,2024 at approximately 01:20am Kawartha Lakes Police Service officers observed a vehicle on William Street at Kent Street driving with no rear lights activated.  The vehicle was stopped and further investigation revealed that the 65-year-old male from Lindsay was impaired. The driver was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Operation while Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while Impaired – Alcohol and Drug
  • Drive without proper rear light – Motor Vehicle
  • Fail to Surrender Insurance
  • Fail to surrender Permit for Motor Vehicle
  • Drive Motor Vehicle – Not equipped with Ignition device

Further investigation revealed that the accused has had three previous convictions for Impaired Driving.

 

 

Later on, Saturday June 22nd, 2024 at approximately 6:30pm police responded to a single motor vehicle collision in the area of Logie Street and Dobson Street in Lindsay where a vehicle had struck a hydro pole.

The driver left the scene of the accident and he was located a short time later.  Further investigation revealed that the 31-year-old male from Lindsay was impaired and he was subsequently arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Operation while Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Fail to Remain

Then on Sunday June 23rd at approximately 2:00pm Kawartha Lakes Police officers observed a vehicle swerving on the road way.  The vehicle was stopped in the area of Highway 36 and the Ultramar gas station in Lindsay.  The vehicle was stopped and investigation revealed that the driver was impaired, the 35-year-old male from Omemee was arrested and charged with the following offence:

  • Operation while Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

It was later determined that the accused in this specific incident was three times over the legal limit.

Finally on Monday June 24th, 2024 at approximately 12:00pm Kawartha Lakes Police responded to another motor vehicle collision in a parking lot at a business on Kent Street in Lindsay.  Investigation once again revealed that one of the driver’s was impaired.  The 49-year-old male from Oakwood was arrested and charged with the following offence:

  • Operation while Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

In addition to the charges all four drivers received a 90 -day driver’s licence suspension and the vehicles were all impounded for 7-days.

The accused will all appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located at 440 Kent Street West in Lindsay on August 1st, 2024.
