Arrest made in November arson investigation
On May 12, 2022 as a result of an ongoing investigation, members of Kawartha Lakes Police Service, Criminal Investigation Branch arrested a male in relation to arsons reported in November 2021.
The original media release reported the following information. On November 16, 2021 at 4:40am Kawartha Lakes OPP and Kawartha Lakes Fire Services responded to a residence on Hutton Street in Lindsay for a fire on the porch of a residence. At that time, it was deemed non-suspicious in nature.
On November 17, 2021 at 3:50am Kawartha Lakes Police Service responded to a second Hutton Street address after, residents were awoken by a loud banging noise. A male was observed at the rear of the residence who had smashed out a basement window and set a fire which was extinguished by the home owner. The male fled the area, towards Dobson Street and was last seen on a bicycle heading toward the Kawartha Trans Canada Trail.
39-year-old Justin Simpson of Lindsay has been charged with arson – disregard for human life X2 and mischief over $5000 X2. The accused was held for bail and will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located at 440 Kent Street West in Lindsay on May 13, 2022.
Impaired driver arrested
On Thursday May 12, 2022 at 11:14pm the Kawartha Lakes Police received a call regarding a possible impaired driver travelling west bound on Pottinger Street in Lindsay. Officers located and stopped the vehicle on Adelaide Street North. While speaking with the driver, officers observed signs of impairment and place the male under arrest. 34-year-old Jason Breen of Lindsay has been charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs and one infraction in contravention of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act. The accused will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located at 440 Kent Street West on June 23, 2022.
