History

The first full time police canine team employed at the Lindsay Police Service (now known as the Kawartha Lakes Police Service) was implemented in September 1997. The police service had at that time existed for a period of 141 years. The introduction of a Canine Unit was a direct reflection of the ever changing demands of a modern police service.

Certification and training of our first three dogs was completed through the Niagara Regional Police Service.  The City of Kawartha Lakes Police Service is one of the smallest Municipal Services in Canada to have a dedicated Canine Unit which would not be possible without the support of our community partners.
