Dunsford Man Arrested For Trafficking At SuperJail

City of Kawartha Lakes Police has arrested and charged a Dunsford area man with Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking and Breach of Trust after an investigation at the Central East Correctional Centre (CECC).

In early September of 2017 Police were alerted to the possibility that an employee of the CECC was involved in the trafficking of drugs within the institution. An investigation was commenced which resulted in the arrest of 57-year-old Stephen Benko of Dunsford.

Benko will appear in the Lindsay, Ontario Court of Justice on Thursday, October 26th, 2017.

 

Motion Light Madness

A 31-year-old Oshawa man was arrested and charged Tuesday night after he randomly destroyed a motion-operated light at a Durham Street West home.

Kawartha Lakes Police were called to Durham Street West in Lindsay shortly after 10:00 pm on Tuesday, September 19th, 2017 after witnesses observed a man acting irrationally on the street. The man was observed attend the front porch of a home and remove the motion light and then smash it on the ground. When police arrived, they located the shirtless man still acting irrationally, and he was arrested.

Thomas Blizzard was arrested and charged with Mischief Under $5000.00, Trespassing By Night and Failing to Comply with a Probation Order. He will appear in the Lindsay, Ontario Court of Justice on Thursday, October 26th, 2017.

 

Drug Search Warrant Nets Cocaine, Opiates & Cash

A drug search warrant executed at an Albert Street South residence has netted cocaine, cash and an opiate-related substance that police believe is carfentanyl.

Shortly after 5:00 pm on Wednesday, September 20th, 2017 members of the City of Kawartha Lakes Police Drug Enforcement Unit and Criminal Investigation Branch executed the warrant at an Albert Street South residence. The search of the residence resulted in the seizure of 18 grams of cocaine, 50 grams of an opiate-related substance, 2 Oxycodone pills, drug trafficking-related paraphernalia and over $2800.00 in cash. The estimated street value of the seized drugs is $6800.00. An adult and young person have been arrested, charged an detained in relation to the investigation.

36-year-old Pamela Shorey of Albert Street South will appear in the Lindsay, Ontario Court of Justice for a Bail Hearing on the charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking and Possession of a Controlled Substance. A 17-year-old youth was detained in custody and will appear for a Bail Hearing on charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking and Possession of Proceeds of Crime. The youth cannot be named under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

 

Peterborough Man Arrested For Stealing Truck

An alert Kawartha Lakes Police officer is being credited with making a quick arrest after stopping a suspicious vehicle early Thursday morning.

On September 21st, 2017 shortly before 1:59 am a man attended Riverwood Park Road address in Lindsay where he stole a 2002 GMC Sierra pickup. A short time later the vehicle was observed by a KLPS officer acting suspiciously on Doubletree Road and Willowdale Court. The man who was operating the truck ran when the officer approached in a marked cruiser but later surrendered without incident.

55-year-old Ian James McNaughton was detained in custody on charges of Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000.00, Failing to Comply with a Probation Order and Driving While Under Suspension. He will appear for a Bail Hearing at the Lindsay, Ontario Court of Justice on Thursday, September 21st, 2017.

 

Two Arrested For Breaching Release Conditions

A Lindsay man and woman have been arrested after Kawartha Lakes Police were called to a property off of the Trans Canada Trail regarding trespassers.

On Thursday, September 21st, 2017 at 7:50 am police were called to the Trans Canada Trail near Springdale Gardens regarding a male and female who were observed trespassing on a property adjacent to the trail. When police arrived and investigated they located the couple, who were familiar with them, on the property. The responding officers were aware that both had been released on a Recognizance of Bail following arrests on September 6th, 2017. A condition of their release was that they not communicate or associate with each other. Both were arrested and detained for a Bail Hearing on Thursday, September 21st, 2017.

35-year-old Amber Miller of no fixed address has been charged with Failing to Comply with a Recognizance and 36-year-old Brandon McFadden also of no fixed address has been charged with Failing to Comply with a Recognizance.
