Arrest In Theft of Tools
A 38-year-old Lindsay man has been charged with theft after tools went missing from a Lindsay Street South rooming house.
Kawartha Lakes Police were contacted on July 21st, 2017 after it was discovered that tools were missing from a locked room at the rooming house. When Police investigated, it was learned that the tools had been observed in the room on July 19th, 2017 when the accused had entered the room to gather some of his personal belongings. The accused was left in the room by himself and was observed leaving the room with a duffle bag. When the owner went back to the room on July 21st, 2017 it was discovered that the tools had gone missing. The tools were later located at a downtown Lindsay buy and sell shop.
38-year-old Douglas John McCleod of no fixed address was arrested and charged with Possession of Stolen Property Under $5000.00. He was detained in custody and will appear in the Lindsay, Ontario Court of Justice for a Bail Hearing on Monday, July 24th, 2017.
Suspended For Life Means No Driving – Ever!
Kawartha Lakes Police have charged a 38-year-old Lindsay man with a number of driving offences, including Driving while Disqualified, after a vehicle he was operating was found to have the wrong licence plates attached.
On Friday, July 21st, 2017 at 11:30 am a KLPS officer on patrol observed a 2003 Chevy pickup being operated on Adelaide Street North. A check revealed that the licence plates attached to the truck were not registered to it. When the officer stopped the vehicle, it was learned that the driver was suspended from driving for life under the Criminal Code for a conviction of impaired driving. He was also suspended several times under the Highway Traffic Act.
Charged with Driving Disqualified under the Criminal Code and a number of other offences under the Highway Traffic Act is Christopher William Hughes of Lindsay. He will appear in the Lindsay, Ontario Court of Justice on Thursday, August 24th, 2017. The vehicle that was being operated by Hughes was impounded for 45 days.
Futures So Bright They Had To Steal Shades
On Friday, July 21st, 207 Kawartha Lakes Police were contacted by a west end grocery store after Loss Prevention staff for the store apprehended a woman for stealing sunglasses.
When police arrived on scene, it was learned that a store Loss Prevention officer had observed a woman in the store select two pairs of sunglasses and then conceal them on their person. They then left the store without making any effort to pay for the glasses. The woman was also found to have a warrant for her arrest that was outstanding.
22-year-old Katherine Rebecca Howard of no fixed address was detained in custody on charges of Theft Under $5000.00 and Possession of Stolen Property Under $5000.00. She will appear in the Lindsay, Ontario Court of Justice on Monday, July 24th, 2017 for a Bail Hearing.
Suspicious Male Found In Possession of Stolen Power Tools
On July 22, 2017, in the early morning, a Kawartha Lakes Police officer observed a man acting suspiciously on Hamilton Street in Lindsay. As the officer drove down the street the man was observed to go into the long grassy field on the west side of the road and lay down, where the officer approached him. The officer observed that there were a large “Dewalt” tool bag and a hard plastic “Dewalt” case with the name of a local electrical company on the side of them. Originally the man indicated that he was an employee of the company and gave the officer a false name. Further investigation revealed that the tools had been stolen and the real identity of the man. It was also discovered that the tools had been taken from a construction site on Victoria Avenue South.
Police arrested and charged 33-year-old Devon Thomas Hill of Little Britain with Personation, Theft Under $5000.00 and Possession of Stolen Property Under. $5000.00. He will appear in the Lindsay, Ontario Court of Justice on Thursday, August 28th, 2017
