Suspended Driver Charged After Rollover

A 19-year-old Lindsay area man was charged with driving under suspension after a vehicle was discovered on its roof on River Road on Friday.

Kawartha Lakes Police were contacted at 11:00 am on Friday, May 26th, 2017 after a concerned citizen called regarding a vehicle on River Road that was in the ditch on its roof. When Police arrived, they discovered a 2009 Mazda in the ditch on its roof. The vehicle had no licence plates on it and appeared to have lost control on a corner before rolling into the ditch. While police were on scene, a male attended the scene and identified himself as the driver of the vehicle.

The 19-year-old man was charged with driving while under suspension, and his vehicle was impounded under the Provincial Vehicle Impoundment Program (VIP) for seven days. Under the program, a vehicle can be impounded for up to 7 days if the driver of the vehicle is found to have a suspended drivers licence for any number of Highway Traffic Act offences. Under Ontario law, it is the responsibility of the owner of the vehicle to make sure that the person driving their vehicle has a valid Ontario driver’s licence. 11-Year-Old Calls 911 After Grandmother Assaulted

A 33-year-old Lindsay woman was held for a bail hearing on the weekend after Police were contacted on 911 by an 11-year-old boy about a woman being assaulted.

When Kawartha Lakes Police officers arrived on scene at 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 27th, 2017 they learned that the accused woman had got into a dispute with her mother over a bank card. The dispute became physical and caused the 11-year-old to fear for the safety of their Grandmother, so they contacted police.

The 33-year-old woman was arrested and charged with Robbery. She was held in custody pending a bail hearing and will appear in the Lindsay, Ontario Court of Justice on Thursday, June 15th, 2017. The identity of the woman is not being released to protect the privacy of the victim.


Man Held In Custody After Domestic Incident

City of Kawartha Lakes Police arrested a 30-year-old Lindsay man after being called to a domestic disturbance on May 27th, 2017.

Officers arrived at the Lindsay home 7:25 pm on Saturday, May 27th, 2017 after a female contacted police indicating she had been assaulted. The investigation revealed that the man and woman had been involved in a relationship for almost ten years. The two became involved in an argument, and the man began to poke the woman in the chest. She tried to leave the home but was prevented from doing so by the man. The situation escalated when the man slapped the woman in the face. The commotion prompted a neighbour to contact police.

The man was arrested and detained in custody on charges of Assault and Forcible Confinement. A future court date was not available at this time. The identity of the man will not be disclosed to protect the privacy of the female victim.
